江戸時代初期の絵師・菱川師宣「見返り美人図」をモチーフに、双子の姉妹アーティストユニットHAMADARAKAか描いた新しいすがた。「ボニータ・ミラール・アトラス（美しい後ろ姿）」と名付けられたこの作品には、菱川師宣の故郷である鋸南町を二人が取材で訪れた際に、彼女たちの四つの網膜に焼き付けられたであろう現在の地域の風景が散りばめられている。時空を超えた菱川師宣とのコラボレーションでありつつ、ジャポニスムの換骨奪胎さえ感じさせる快作。
Inspired by the early Edo-period painter Hishikawa Moronobu’s master piece “Beauty looking back”, this is a new interpretation by the twin sister artist unit HAMADARAKA. Titled “Bonita Mirar Atlas” (Beautiful Back View), this work is interspersed with contemporary regional landscapes that must have been etched onto the artists’ retinas during their research visit to Kyonan Town, Hishikawa Moronobu’s birthplace. It is a collaboration with Hishikawa Moronobu that transcends time and space, yet also feels like a masterful reinterpretation of Japonisme.
